Ravaged by injuries, our side surely wouldn´t have suffered this result should our big hitters have been available. Fielding a team that included Georg Harding and Marcel Ketelaer, Rapid were unable to win the midfield battle against one of the Bundesliga´s weakest teams. The Burgenländers were scrapping for survival and were playing with total commitment and a must win mentality. "Jimmy" Hoffer manufactured an early chance before Mattersburg gave us a scare with a shot the rattled the goal frame. Our opponents snatched a suprise lead as Mörz beat Helge Payer in the 28th minute slotting home a re-bound in the visitors next attack. Hoffer was again unlucky minutes before the break, arrowing a drive narrowly past the upright. Pacult made a double switch at half time, searching for more thrust and brought on two attack minded players in Jelavic and Trimmel. It looked to have done the trick when Jelavic restored parity with a rasping drive from outside the box, leaving the visitors keeper clawing at thin air. The scoreline didn´t last long though as Atan restored the away sides one goal advantage in the 64th minute. The game ebbed away from the Green Whites though as the margin was extended via the penalty spot. Hannes Eder gave the Hütteldorfers hope as he capitalised on a horrorshow from Mattersburg´s keeper, nodding in from close range. Mattersburg rode their luck though and clung on to claim the points they needed to retain their topflight status. The Rapid faithful were left to reflect on what has been a rollercoaster season at the famous Hannapi Stadion as we all look forward to a summer off and next seasons title push.35th round:SK Rapid - Mattersburg 2:3 (0:1)Goals: 0:1 Mörz (28.), 1:1 Jelavic (50.), 1:2 Atan (64.), 1:3 Mörz (67.), 2:3 Eder (76.)Stats of the game(gw)
