On another day, Rapid could have easily scored five but desperate defending, some average finishing and a complete absence of lady luck resulted in a second defeat of the season in as many matches. Rapid legend Peter Schöttel´s determined visitors took advantage of a slow start from the Green-Whites to race into a two goal advantage, and despite chance after chance  for the Hütteldorfers, it proved an insurmountable lead. Evidently still buzzing from their 5 - 0 thrashing of Linz, visitors Wiener Neustadt were quickly on the pulse of the game and directing proceedings. The blues took a deserved lead on 11 minutes as Aigner headed home a cross to stun the Hanappi. After the goal Rapid found their feet but it was the visitors who doubled their advantage, good work from Wolf allowed Burgstaller the simplest of headers from a couple of yards out. Gartler and Eder spurned guilt edged chances to get Rapid back in the game before half time as the Green Whites ramped up the pressure on the away defence. Trailing two nil at half time, Rapid emerged for the second half ready to launch the kitchen sink. However, it wasn't until Wiener Neustadt were reduced to ten men with 15 minutes to go that the onslaught began in earnest, just as Jelavic had halved the deficit. Rapid then manufactured chance after chance but were unable to find the crucial break through. Hofmann, Jelavic and Gartler will be wondering how they didn't score at least a couple each but as the final whistle went, the only statistic that counted was the 1:2 scoreline. 2nd round: SK Rapid - Wiener Neustadt 1:2 (0:2)Hanappi-Stadion, 15.500, Referee Oliver Drachta Goals: 0:1 Aigner (11.), 0:2 G.
