Marko Maric made the step up to the first team in the early part of the 2014/15 season after having his contract previously extended by then Sporting Director Helmut Schulte up until the end of the 2015/16 season. The Vienna born Croatian youth international made nine first team appearances and had developed into a genuine challenger for Slovak international Jan Novota's starting spot. Sporting Director Andreas Müller: "We wanted to keep Marko Maric at the club and made him, what we believed, to be a super offer to extend his current contract. He was edging towards being first choice keeper but with regards to that specialised position we didn’t want to take any short term measures and therefore looked to prolong his stay. Unfortunately Marko decided against signing a contract extension under the conditions we offered and made it clear that he felt his future lay away from Rapid Vienna. We need players who are committed to the cause and identify with what we are trying to achieve, and as we want continuity – particularly in the goalkeeper position - we decided to move on."Marko Maric leaves the club with immediate effect and will be loaned out to Polish outfit Lechia Danzig by his new parent club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. The details regarding the transfer fee will remain undisclosed.skrapid.at wishes Marko Maric all the best for his future career!
