Rapid v Monaco: French champions are coming to Hütteldorf
In recent years we have always marked the end of the pre-season training and friendlies by inviting a prominent guest to Hütteldorf to round off the preparations. Previous sides to have made a guest appearance in the capital include: Liverpool, AS Roma, Schalke 04, Celtic, Galatasaray, RSC Anderlecht and 1899 Hoffenheim. Last year our international friendly was the centre piece of the Allianz Stadium opening ceremony and festivities. Eventual Premier League winners Chelsea were the guests that day, with Rapid sealing a 2:0 win.
Now that we have completed all the formalities, we’re pleased to announce the opponents for this season's international friendly: coming to Hütteldorf are newly crowned French champions AS Monaco (Association Sportive de Monaco Football Club).
In Monaco we welcome a side that is currently one of the best in Europe: after 17 long years the side from the Principality again claimed the league title (for the 8th time), whilst they also shocked Europe by powering their way to the semi-finals of the Champions League where it took Italian giants Juventus to bring their run to an end. Some of the best-known players in Trainer Leonardo Jardim's side include Portuguese midfielder Joao Moutinho and Columbian superstar striker Falcao. In addition some of their young stars represent Europe's top assets; players like Kylian Mbappe and Tiemoué Bakayoko are attracting admiring glances from all of Europe's top clubs, whilst young talent Bernado Silva has already departed for the Premier League and Manchester City for an eye watering 45 million Euros.
The fixture will take place on Sunday 9th July at 17:30 in the Allianz Stadium.
All information appertaining to the ticketing structure and ticket purchasing possibilities will be announced in the course of the coming week.
