Friendly in Zwetendorf
During the international break, our side took on SV Zwetendorf in a friendly. The match represented a good opportunity for a handful of players from the reserves to play alongside their senior counterparts in an effort to catch the eye of Trainer Goran Djuricin. The whole team was changed at half time, giving each and every player precious minutes on the pitch. The 900 or so Rapid fans in attendance will all have been delighted to see Tamas Szanto make his comeback from injury, and equally delighted to see Rapid net ten goals! "I am really delighted to be able to train fully with the team again. I'm not quite 100% yet, but now I’ve started training properly it’s getting better and better", explained our number 18 after the match.
Straight from kick-off, Rapid went on the offensive and in search of goals. Joelinton (2., 7.) had early chances to open the scoring, but the Zwetendorf goalkeeper was in no mood to surrender his clean sheet without a fight. But the deadlock was broken after a quarter of an hour, as Veton Berisha converted having been set up by Steffen Hofmann to make it 1:0. More chances flowed as Joelinton (27.), Sahanek (33., header against the crossbar) and Ehrnhofer (33.) all had good opportunities to extend the Hütteldorfers' lead. The honour of bagging a second eventually fell to Andi Kuen who made it 2:0 with a low drive (34.). Minutes later Joelinton (39.) finally got in on the act to make it 3:0. A Steffen Hofmann penalty (41.) rounded off the first half scoring following a foul in the box on Joelinton, as Rapid went into the half-time break 4:0 to the good.
As previously mentioned, Goran Djuricin opted to make eleven changes during the interval and give an entirely new side a run out in the second half. One of the changes was Tamas Szanto (48.), who nearly got himself on the score sheet just minutes after the restart. Reserve player David Nader (49.) went one better than Szanto, notching Rapid's first goal of the second period to make it 5:0. Eren Keles then stepped fully into the limelight, scoring two goals in two minutes (61., 62.) to extend the Green & Whites’ lead to 7:0. Lying 11th in the 1st Class North-West-Central League, Zwetendorf were by now running on empty. Rapid hit the woodwork for the second time through Thomas Murg (74.), before Keles (76.) bagged his hat-trick to make it 8:0. Philipp Prosenik (77.) cashed in on a Nader assist to make it 9:0, before Tamas Szanto (83.) fittingly scored the final goal of the afternoon, making it 10:0 to Rapid. After the game, the Rapid players and Trainer Team took time to mingle with the public, sign autographs and take photos with healthy portion of the crowd that stayed on.
