Marvin Potzmann moves to Hütteldorf
Confirmed transfer in Hütteldorf: The 24-year old Marvin Potzmann is heading to SK Rapid after spending three seasons with Sturm Graz. Potzmann has signed a contract tying him to the club until summer 2021. The move represents a return home for the utility man, who was born in Vienna and began his career at Post SV. A family move eastwards to Burgenland resulted in move to the SV Mattersburg academy, through which Potzmann would progress before celebrating his first team debut at the tender age of 17. He would go on to make 35 competitive appearances (scoring 5 goals) for Burgenland’s premier football outfit, before a summer 2013 move to SV Grödig. During his two seasons with the Salzburg side he scored 3 goals in 44 appearances. His performances earned him a move to Austrian football power Sturm Graz, where the versatile youngster would make 78 appearances, scoring three times. The high point of his career in Styria unfolded just a few weeks ago, when he set up the winning goal for Sturm in their cup final victory over holders RB Salzburg.
Sporting Director Fredy Bickel was delighted to have landed his second summer transfer target, having already lured Serbian international Andrija Pavlovic to the Allianz Stadium: "In Marvin we are bringing in a relatively young, yet very experienced player, who has already played in numerous positions through his career. He is joining us primarily as a full-back, but it’s a real advantage having a player in our ranks that has proven ability as a midfielder. We’re excited to have Marvin on board, a player rated so highly by his ex-manager Franco Foda, that he has now won a call up to Foda’s Austrian squad", explained the 53-year old Swiss.
Marvin Potzmann travelled on Sunday to join up with the Austrian national team in Tyrol, where he’ll get a chance to get to know new club team mates Thomas Murg and Richard Strebinger. Talking about his transfer to the Green & Whites he said: "Firstly, I would like to thank Sturm for three great seasons and must say that I’ll always reflect upon the club and its fans with the utmost respect. But I’m even more excited that I’ve moved to a famous, big club, the biggest in the land, and back to the city of my birth. With its stadium and massive fan communities, Rapid offers huge opportunities, and I’m of the opinion that my new colleagues and I can be very successful. I’m going to give everything as a Green & White from the first minute and feel very positive about this chance I’ve been given. I’m going into it full of enthusiasm", said the 24-year old born and bred Viennese.
