On Saturday early pace-setters Sturm Graz visited the Allianz Stadium. The Styrian side punished sloppy play from Rapid, going two goals ahead early in the second half. Stephan Auer pulled one back for the Green & Whites, but Sturm held on to take the points.
Trailing 1:0 at half time, Rapid were undone by a quick-fire double from ex-striker Starkl in the space of a minute mid-way through the second half. Joelinton managed to grab a consolation in the only bright spot of a game which saw Rapid reduced to 10 men in the closing stages.

On Saturday Rapid made the short trip to Lower Austria to take on SKN St. Pölten. A dominant display from the Green & Whites handed them a first maximum points haul of the season, as Rapid hit four past their hosts.
On Saturday, Rapid kicked off their Bundesliga season at home to Mattersburg. Goals from Auer and Wöber looked to have given the ten-man Hüttledorfers the opening day win, but the Green & Whites were pegged back in the latter stages of the game and eventually had to be satisfied with a point.
