Bitter pill to swallow: Last minute defeat the first of the seasonThe opening exchanges of the game saw Rapid playing with all the confidence you would expect from a side sitting pretty at the top of the Bundesliga: Plenty of possession and a decent clutch of chances manufactured in the opening 20 minutes of play. The breakthrough nearly arrived in the 11th minute in the shape of a Steffen Hofmann free kick that home keeper Grazei did well to deflect onto the angle and away to safety. Hamdi Salihi was next to try his luck four minutes later: His diving header just cleared Grazei’s crossbar as the home fans breathed another sigh of relief. Following their sticky start to the season, champions Sturm were lacking in confidence and failed to conjure a single noteworthy first half effort. They were certainly the happier of the two sides to get into the half time team talk with parity still in tact. Bogged down in midfieldAny fluidity on display in the first half was largely lacking in the second. Misplaced passes were leading to greater emphasis being placed on the second ball and the game turned into a midfield tussle, with flowing football and goal scoring opportunities at a premium. Three minutes after the restart, a Kienast header failed to test Payer in a solitary brief highlight of the early action. Peter Schöttel threw Thomas Prager in the fray and with him came a fresh injection of purpose into the proceedings from a Rapid point of view. Foda’s introduction of Muratovic failed to breath life into the laboring hosts, who until this point had failed to register a single shot on goal. With ten minutes left to play a Katzer header and a Kienast shot on the turn offered brief hope for their respective sides but both failed to extend the opposing keepers. With the clock running down both teams looked to have settled for a point until Bukva picked up the ball near the left hand touchline. The Graz man ran unchallenged for 20 yards before letting off a decent low effort from the edge of the box that Payer could only deflect onto the post and into the net. It was the games decisive moment and one Payer will not want to see again as Rapid went down to their first defeat under the watch of Peter Schöttel.  Bundesliga, 4th round:SK Sturm - SK Rapid 1:0 (0:0)UPC-Arena, 14.000, Referee DrachtaGoal: 1:0 Bukva (92.)SK Sturm: Gratzei - Standfest, Dudic, T.
