Galvão: Welcome to Rapid!
Transfer news from SK Rapid: with immediate effect, Brazilian defender Galvão (Lucas Galvão da Costa Souza) moves from SCR Altach to Hütteldorf. The South American, who turned 26 in June, has put pen to paper on a contract tying himself to the club until summer 2020.
Sporting Director Fredy Bickel shared his thoughts on the transfer: "We have had Galvão on our wish list for some time and have been involved in on-going talks with him and representatives of SCR Altach, whom I'd like to thank for the hard but fair negotiations. He is an established player that can play on the left flank, in defensive midfield, but can also be deployed in central defence. I am convinced that he’ll quickly start helping us and will slot into the squad", explained the Swiss.
Galvão moved from his Brazilian homeland to Austria four years ago, representing SC Austria Lustenau for two seasons before moving to Altach in summer 2015. During his time with SC Rheindorf the 181cm tall South American made 54 competitive appearances, including 7 in this season's Europa League qualifying campaign. As Galvão had a considerable amount of time to run on his contract with Altach, a transfer fee had to be negotiated. The fee will, however, remain undisclosed.
Rapid's newest recruit will wear the number 3 shirt he also wore with his previous employers. Having made a brief debut appearance against LASK on Saturday, Galvão may well be involved in the upcoming friendly against SV Oberwart (30. August; KO 19:30).
