Thomas Murg pens new deal!
The club is delighted to announce that an agreement has been reached with Thomas Murg to extend his current contract by a further two years! The 22-year-old Styrian arrived in Hütteldorf in January 2016 from SV Ried, originally agreeing a contract until summer 2019. Since his arrival, Murg has made 59 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals in the process.
During the current campaign, Murg has developed into a key player for the Green & Whites and has netted in each of Rapid’s league victories up to this point. Sporting Director Fredy Bickel gave his thoughts on Murg's extension: "In the past months Thomas Murg has really improved all facets of his game and has become a tremendously important player for us - on and off the field. His form trajectory is heading in the right direction and I'm convinced that he has plenty of potential yet to be realised, and will eventually mature into a player that will represent the national side. His performances have already attracted the attention of other clubs, and hence it is even more pleasing that we have managed to extend his contract and tie him to the club until 2021."
Thomas Murg explained his reasons for wanting to extend his contract with the club: "That the club has extended my contract so far in advance is a huge sign of trust, which of course makes me very happy. At the moment it’s a lot of fun playing for Rapid and I’m convinced that we'll continue to improve as a team and give our huge fan base plenty to cheer about. I was delighted to agree to the extension because my aim is to start winning titles here as soon as possible", explained the Styrian born Murg, who will celebrate his 23rd birthday in November.
