Christoph Lang is Green & White
Personnel news from the Green & White first team. 22-year-old attacking player Christoph Lang has joined SK Rapid with immediate effect. The twelve-time ÖFB U-21 international (four goals) last played for this Bundesliga season’s surprise package, TSV Hartberg. Lang appeared in 20 competitive matches for the team from Eastern Styria, scoring five times and providing the assist for a further four goals. As is well known, his last goal was a painful one for his new club, as he scored the winning goal in Hartberg's 1-0 triumph over Rapid back in November.
Formally, Christoph Lang is moving from his parent club SK Sturm Graz, which he joined as a nine-year-old. He was loaned out to SV Ried (17 games, four goals) and most recently to Hartberg in the spring of 2023. The versatile Styrian also made a number of appearances for Sturm Graz, running out 19 times for the senior side (two goals) and a further 12 times (five goals) for the second team of the "Blackies" in Austria’s second tier, for whom he had previously scored almost 20 times in the third-tier Regionalliga Mitte.
All parties involved have now reached an agreement, and Christoph Lang has signed a contract with SK Rapid until the 2026/27 season!
Managing Director of Sport Markus Katzer commented on the new signing: "Christoph Lang has made a name for himself beyond our national borders with his strong performances in the Bundesliga and in the U21 national team, so I'm all the more pleased that we can welcome him into our midst with immediate effect. As a young Austrian player who already has plenty of experience in the professional game, he fits our profile perfectly. I'm sure that his potential and attitude will allow him to become an important part of our team."
Christoph Lang himself gave an initial statement on the transfer: "I know that Styrian footballers have a long tradition at SK Rapid and I will do everything I can to ensure that I can join those honorable ranks in the coming years. I'm looking forward to the first sessions with the coaching team and my new team-mates, as well as my first outing in Hütteldorf in front of the famously vociferous crowd, which has always impressed me as a player on the opposing team."
