Rückkehr von Louis Schaub zum SK Rapid fixiert!

SK Rapid can now officially share some good news on the transfer front: the 29-year-old forward Louis Schaub will be wearing Green & White once again. Almost six years after leaving the club with more than 200 competitive appearances under his belt, he’s back!

The formal agreement of all parties involved, including the 29-time ÖFB international’s previous club Hannover 96, has now been reached and his medical has been completed. Schaub has signed a four-year contract with SK Rapid until the end of the 2027/28 season! Managing Director of Sport Markus Katzer is delighted with the new signing, which came as a surprise to many: “I have known and appreciated Louis Schaub for many years and even played with him. His footballing qualities are beyond doubt, he has also matured a lot thanks to his years of experience abroad and should become a real leader on and off the pitch for us. Even if the odds didn't seem too good at first, we were determined to try and bring Louis back to us. I am all the more pleased that this has been successful and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the professional and cooperative negotiations. I am convinced that Louis Schaub will further enhance our quality and, like our coaching team, I am really looking forward to working with him in the future.”

Louis Schaub joined the Green & White academy as a teenager from the Admira youth team in the Südstadt, and made his debut with the Rapid first team as a 17-year-old talent in August 2012 in a 3-0 home win against Sturm Graz in the Bundesliga. He went on to become ‘EURO Louis’ in Hütteldorf, scoring an impressive 16 goals in 30 European appearances before his move to Germany, which puts him third in the all-time Green & White European goalscoring list behind Steffen Hofmann (25) and Hans Krankl (18). He played a total of 204 competitive matches for SK Rapid, in which he scored 45 goals and assisted a further 30!

In Louis Schaub, Rapid can welcome back an absolute fan-favourite!

After his transfer in the summer of 2018, he managed promotion to the German Bundesliga with 1. FC Köln. From the summer of 2020 he was on loan, first at Hamburger SV and then at FC Luzern, before playing another season in Cologne. He then moved to Hannover 96 on a permanent basis in the summer of 2022 and played 56 competitive matches there, scoring nine goals and directly setting up a further nine. He made his debut for the Austrian national team in 2016, appearing in 29 international matches for his country (including one at UEFA EURO 2020) and scoring eight goals!

Louis Schaub said the following on his return to Hütteldorf: “After six years abroad, I'm delighted to be able to play at home again. Rapid has always been my favourite club and it's all the nicer that I can now continue my career for the Green & Whites. I sensed in all the talks that the people in charge really wanted to bring me back and I would like to thank them for their great vote of confidence. I can hardly wait to be back in Hütteldorf in front of the vociferous fans and am particularly looking forward to the atmosphere at the Allianz Stadium. I can promise the Rapid fans that I will give it my all from the very first training session so that I can do my bit to ensure that we play the most successful football possible.”

Louis will now take a well-deserved summer break, before getting to know his new team-mates once pre-season preparation training gets underway.
