Fally Mayulu Makes Championship Move
After one season in Green & White, striker Fally Mayulu is moving to England's second tier. SK Rapid and Bristol City agreed on the terms of the transfer, all the formalities have been completed and thus the 21-year-old Frenchman becomes the next Rapid attacker to join the "Robins", following Andreas Weimann, who scored over 50 goals in five-and-a-half seasons with the Red & Whites several years after he left the Rapid academy to head to England.
Fally Mayulu joined Rapid from promoted club Blau-Weiß Linz in the 2022/23 season, after their title-winning campaign in the ADMIRAL 2.Liga. The tall forward has since made 35 competitive appearances, scoring eleven times in Rapid colours. The Frenchman was particularly prolific in the ÖFB Cup, where he scored five goals in four matches.
Although the older brother of PSG starlet Senny Mayulu was not always a starter during his time at Rapid (18 appearances, 12 substitutions), he was already attracting interest from other clubs last spring, as Managing Director of Sport Markus Katzer emphasised in recent weeks.
He had this to say regarding the transfer of Fally Mayulu, who was without a club in the autumn of 2021 and was brought in from Linz on a free transfer in the summer of 2023: "I was one hundred percent convinced by Fally, even though I thought he would need at least one season to adapt with us. He scored a good amount of goals last season, but still has a lot of potential to improve further. He was keen to accept the offer from England's second tier, which is also very attractive in financial terms. For us, too, the negotiated transfer modalities are now as such that we no longer wanted to put any obstacles in Fally's way. We have several potential new recruits in mind for the vacant position, and I am optimistic that we will be able to announce a deal in a few days' time. I would like to thank Fally personally and on behalf of our club for his commitment over the last few months, and wish him every success in his new position in the EFL Championship."
