Jannes Horn Joins SK Rapid
The rumours had already been making their rounds, and now SK Rapid can officially confirm a second summer signing after the arrival of Claudy Mbuyi: 28-year-old defender Jannes Horn will join from 1. FC Nürnberg for next season, having signed a deal until the summer of 2027! The German defender was most recently on loan at St. Louis City SC and played 20 games across the MLS and the US Open Cup.
Our new head coach already knows the 186cm tall defender from their time together at 1. FC Köln, where the versatile left-footer made seven appearances under Peter Stöger’s stewardship.
Horn began his footballing career at VfB Rot-Weiß Braunschweig and moved to VfL Wolfsburg as a ten-year-old in 2008, where he progressed through all the stages of his youth career. In December 2015, the German made the step up to the Wolves' senior squad and celebrated his debut in the German Bundesliga on September 17th, 2016. Horn moved to 1. FC Köln for the 2017/18 season. This was followed by stops at Hannover 96, VfL Bochum and 1. FC Nürnberg before he laced up his boots in the USA’s MLS with St. Louis City. Horn also proudly wore the jersey of various national youth teams of the German Football Association (U-16 to U-21) 25 times.
Sporting Director Markus Katzer commented on the new signing: "Jannes Horn is a player who has been on our radar for some time. The fact that our new coach Peter Stöger has already worked with him and recognises his qualities is an added bonus for this transfer. Jannes is an experienced defensive player for the left flank who has also proven his qualities as a centre-back. I'm delighted that we've been able to agree to work together” said the 45-year-old Viennese on the signing of the 186 cm tall Braunschweig player, who was still under contract with the “Glubb” until the summer of 2026.
Head Coach Peter Stöger commented on the signing of the 28-year-old German: "I'm sure that Jannes Horn will be a reinforcement for us. Our time together at FC Köln only lasted a few months, but I have very positive memories of both his sporting qualities and his character. I'm looking forward to the reunion and working with Jannes again."
The new signing Jannes Horn himself said: "When the offer came, my family and I immediately decided to accept it. The club and the city of Vienna convinced us so much that we didn't want to listen to anything else. From now on, I want to help ensure that we have a successful time here and I'm delighted that everything went so smoothly. When it was announced during the talks with Rapid that my former coach Peter Stöger had been hired, it was an additional confirmation of my decision."
Jannes Horn will play for the Green & Whites with the number 38, which he already wore at Bochum, Nuremberg and St. Louis.
