Sangaré Signs for RC Lens

Malischer Teamspieler künftig in der französischen Ligue 1 im Einsatz:

After finalising the formalities of the deal and completing his medical tests, we can now officially announce that Mamadou Sangaré is transferring from SK Rapid to RC Lens in Ligue 1 with immediate effect. The 23-year-old Mali international came to Hütteldorf in the summer of 2024 on loan from FC RB Salzburg via TSV Hartberg, and quickly became an established regular. ‘Mama,’ as the likeable midfielder is known to everyone, made exactly 50 competitive appearances (30 in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga, 17 in UEFA competitions and three in the ÖFB Cup), scoring three goals (one in the ÖFB Cup and two in Vienna derbies in the league).

For months, transfer rumours have been swirling around the man with the number 17, who made his debut for Mali's national team last season, and has made six appearances for ‘Les Aigles’ so far. Now SK Rapid has agreed on the transfer terms with French top flight club RC Lens, and ‘Mama’ Sangaré will now be given a chance to shine in Ligue 1.

Managing Director of Sport Markus Katzer said: "Mamadou Sangaré has absolutely fulfilled the expectations we had when we signed him just over a year ago. He gave 100% commitment every second and also enriched our team on a personal level with his great character. He was always loyal, and even though we are sad to see him go, I am delighted that he can now fulfil his dream of playing in one of Europe's top five leagues. 'Mama' is only at the beginning of his career and I believe he has a very bright future ahead of him. He will always be welcome here, I wish him all the best in his future career and thank him for his commitment and his almost always outstanding performances for our club."

Mamadou Sangaré himself, on leaving Hütteldorf: "I would like to sincerely thank all the fans, coaches, staff and teammates! Thanks to you all, I have experienced the best moments of my career so far. It was a great honour to fight for this jersey and to be part of the Rapid family forever. Thank you for your trust, energy and wonderful emotions, especially during the derby victories! I have decided to take on a new challenge and will now cheer on my former team like a fan. Once a Rapid fan, always a Rapid fan!"
