Deal Done: Marco Tilio To Rapid!
SK Rapid are delighted to announce the signing of Marco Tilio from Celtic. The 24-year-old (born August 2001) will move from the Glasgow giants to Hütteldorf with immediate effect. The Australian attacker has put pen to paper on a deal lasting until the end of the 2028/29 season!
Marco began his football career at Sydney FC, before he moved to Melbourne City FC in the September of 2020. From there, he made the leap to Europe two years ago and was signed by Celtic FC in Glasgow, Scotland. In February 2024, the 55-time Scottish champions loaned him back to his home country to join his previous club Melbourne City. He played a total of 107 competitive matches for City, being involved in 50 goals (scoring 26 himself), and was an important part of the championship-winning team in 2025. Tilio has played nine internationals for the Australian national team and was in the Socceroos’ squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but did not play. The versatile Aussie, who also has an Italian passport and thus EU citizenship, has already successfully completed his medical and can therefore immediately join up with the Green & White squad!
First Impressions on the Signing:
Managing Director of Sport Markus Katzer had the following to say about the latest addition to the team: "Marco Tilio is a player we have had on our radar for a long time, and I am particularly pleased that we have now reached an agreement on a permanent transfer. With his speed and skills, which he can bring to bear in attack, especially on the wings, he will enrich our offensive play. Even though he didn't get much competitive playing time at Celtic, it's definitely an advantage that he's already gained experience at a big, traditional European club. Like our head coach Peter Stöger, I'm looking forward to working with him, and I hope that Marco will bring us a lot of joy in the future."
The Australian international himself, who will wear the number 7 jersey for Rapid, said in his first statement: “I am happy that the transfer has finally gone through after lengthy discussions and that I can be here in Vienna. I am really looking forward to introducing myself to the Rapid fans at the stadium soon, and I hope that I will be able to start quickly and play my first game here.”
