Andreas  Müller doesn't only have a successful playing career behind him, but also a wealth of expereince gathered in the German Bundesliga both in managemnet and at board level. Born in Stuttgart on 13th December 1962, Müller started his post-playing career at Schalke 04 in 2000 as Director of Football and remained with the club in this capacity for six years before taking over first team duties from Gelsenkirchen legend Rudi Assauer. Müller remained at the club for a further three years, taking his time with the German giants to almost a decade in which the club qualified for European football on eight occasions - including three appearances in the Champions League. Domestically during  Müller's time with the club Schalke twice won the German Cup (2001, 2002) and were runners up in the Bundesliga three times (2001, 205,2007).Müller, whose playing carrer including spells at Stuttgart (1983 - 1987), Hannover 96 (1987/88) and Schalke 04 (1998 – 2000), ammassed 332 Bundesliga appearances (32 goals) and 86 appearances in German football's second tier (13 goals), while he was part of the Schalke squad that won the 1997 UEFA Cup. Most recently he was at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim as General Manager. Müller was also on the board of GoalSky AG and holds a UEFA-Trainer-A-License.Contract until Summer 2016The 51 year old Müller replaces his fellow countryman Helmut Schulte, whose spell at the club ends today. President Michael Krammer had the following to say about the first presonnel decision taken during his fledgling presidency: "Following our positive experience of working with Helmut Schulte we wanted to continue down the road of working with someone who has international experience. Andreas Müller doesn't only have a wealth of experience in this role, but is also a great match for a club with a rich tradition like SK Rapid. He convinced us during the conversations prior to him signing with us, and now were looking forward to working together until at least the end of the 2015/16 season.“Andreas Müller introduced himself to the press for the first time today. His first reaction to taking over the post was to say:  "I'm looking forward to this challenge at a traditional big club with lofty targets that is known throughout Europe."(gw)
