As expected new signing Florian Kainz wasn't named in Trainer Zoran Barisic's match day squad, but his former Sturm Graz team mate Robert Beric was handed his full debut. It didn't take long for Rapid to settle into a comfy rhythm and confidently stroke the ball about the park. SV Ried's much heralded pressing game under new coach Oliver Glasner was effectively disabled by the confident centre back duo Mario Sonnleitner and Christopher Dibon who were calmly playing the ball out of defence. Once the ball made its way over the half way line, quick and incisive movement from Rapid made good use of the space vacated by Ried's pressing tactics: the first chance of the game arrived early as stylish link up play by the Hütteldorfers saw the ball moved swiftly from the right hand touchline in field in a move that culminated with Deni Alar playing advanced full back Thomas Schrammel in on goal who drew a good reaction save from Ried goalie Gebauer (3.). The next chance fell to Dominik Wydra, who, after receiving the ball from the impressive Robert Beric, again drew the best out of Gebauer with a low right footed effort from just inside the penalty area (14.). Rapid were having by far the better of the opening phase and looked threatening whenever they moved the ball into the final third. The 14.200 strong crowd was being treated to a slick attacking performance from a Rapid side who had clearly found their groove. Louis Schaub had a golden chance to break the deadlock when played clear through on Gebauer by Christopher Dibon. Ignoring the option of playing a square ball for Steffen Hofmann to tap home, Schaub took the responsibility on himself, but his low left footed shot was kept out by the Ried keeper the rebound falling to Mario Pavelic whose shot was cleared by a throng of bodies in the visitor's penalty area (31.). Completely against the run of play, Ried nearly sneaked ahead when Murg managed to get a powerful effort away that forced Jan Novota into a full length diving save (32.). The best chance of the remainder of the half again fell to Schaub, who showed neat footwork to round Gebauer, before electing to try and force the ball home with the outside of his left foot from a tight angle, but despite the Viennese' obvious dominance the half ended with the score still at 0:0.Deni Alar with the winnerThe pattern of the game changed little after half time, with Rapid continuing to boss proceedings. Ten minutes after the re-start it looked like a richly deserved breakthrough had finally arrived but Christopher Dibon's powerful header from a corner struck the foot of the post and Ried survived another monumental scare (55.). Goalkeeper Gebauer's sparkling form from the first half continued in the second, as he this time denied Mario Pavelic at the near post after the full back's overlapping run into the box had been spotted by captain Steffen Hofmann (62.). Minutes later the pressure finally told: Pavelic played a beautifully weighted pass into the path of Deni Alar who got just enough on his shot to finally beat Gebauer and hand Rapid the lead their excellent attacking football had merited - 1:0 (65.)! Robert Beric nearly made it two not long after but got a little too much on his glancing header, lifting the ball a couple of feet over the cross bar having found space around the penalty spot (66.). The visitors attempted to up the tempo and go in search of an equaliser, but it was the Hütteldorfers who always looked more likely to find a second, with often only the final ball lacking to cap off some really intricate forward play. Ried did manage to manufacture one golden chance: a long cross towards the back post was met by substitute Möschl, who thankfully for the Green & Whites failed to control his first time effort, lifting the ball high over Novota's crossbar from an extremely threatening position just six or seven yards from goal. However, Rapid remained the better and more likely side in the closing stages, but failed to capitalise on a string of promising positions and thus had to settle for the 1:0 victory. All those who saw the game will know that it was never as close as the scoreline suggested, and the Green & Whites were able to build on the midweek friendly victory over Galatasaray to restore the feel good factor in their football following the opening day setback.Trainer Zoran Barisic: "The past week was certainly not easy, which makes me even more satisfied with the 1:0 win. We made life difficult for ourselves today, particularly in the first half. We should of taken the lead early but we weren't efficient enough in front of goal. After the goal we didn't capitalise on promising situations and Ried grew into the game and were dangerous in the last quarter of an hour."tipico Bundesliga, Matchday TwoSK Rapid - SV Ried 1:0 (0:0)Vienna, Ernst-Happel-Stadion, 14.200 Attendance, Ref Ouschan.Goal: 1:0 Alar (65.)SK Rapid: Novota - Pavelic, Dibon, Sonnleitner, Schrammel - Petsos, Wydra (84./Behrendt) - Schaub, S.
