Damir Canadi relieved of his duties: Goran Djuricin and Martin Bernhard take over until end of season

After a run of nine league games without victory culminating in defeat in Ried on Saturday, SK Rapid Vienna has been forced to act to arrest this alarming slide.

With the club having had to endure nine consecutive matches without victory, and the defeat in Ried on Saturday being the fifth loss during the winless streak, SK Rapid has had to monitor the on-field developments and make a difficult decision.

Damir Canadi, who took over in Hütteldorf in November 2016 and oversaw 17 competitive matches of which only three resulted in victories (at home in the league against St. Pölten and Ried in December, and in the cup quarter final away in St. Pölten), has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.

Fredy Bickel, Sporting Director, said on the decision: "I firstly want to thank Damir Canadi for his work and commitment, as he put all his effort into trying to bring success to the side. But the situation has grown incredibly precarious, as in the previous 14 rounds of matches no side has recorded less wins than us. We are now regrettably involved in a relegation battle, and we need to accept this and react appropriately. I'm very close to the team and the trainers. Despite not being in any way a fan of changing a trainer during the season, unfortunately the time came when we had to react. The committee and President Michael Krammer along with the board also arrived at the conclusion that it was necessary to move on without Damir Canadi. Until the end of the season Goran Djuricin and Martin Bernhard will take over his position."
