More transfer news: Manuel Martic moves to Hütteldorf
In Manuel Martic we are welcoming a defensive allrounder into the Hütteldorf fold. The 22-year old Austrian (born August 1995) progressed through the youth ranks at Vorwärts Steyr, before moving to St. Pölten. It was in the colours of St. Pölten that the young Martic established himself in his favoured defensive midfield role. In the past season he made 14 appearances scoring one goal. Martic was selected for SKN’s crucial relegation play-off against Wiener Neustadt, which ultimately saw the Wolves retain their top-flight status.
The imposing Martic (1.93m tall) has signed a two-year contract with SK Rapid running until summer 2020.
Sporting Director Fredy Bickel: "With the acquisition of Manuel Martic we have secured a priority transfer – we have looked for competition for Dejan Ljubicic's position and have found just that. He replaces Thanos Petsos whose stay on loan has not been extended, and fills the gap created by Ivan Mocinic’s ongoing absence. Martic is a physically strong, hard tackling holding midfielder, who also has the ability to turn defence into attack. We have been watching him for a period of time and are delighted that he has chosen SK Rapid."
Manuel Martic: "I'm absolutely delighted and it’s an honour to join SK Rapid. It is THE club in Austria, with its unbelievable fans that I’m already looking forward to playing in front of. At the same time, it was also important for me to secure Bundesliga football with my ex-team mates in the relegation match and that was also achieved. I gave everything and can now look forwards with huge anticipation to meeting them all again in the league – only this time as a Rapid player!"
