New Swedish Signing joins from Spain
SK Rapid have reacted swiftly to the injury problems in attack (both Thierry Gale and Oliver Strunz will miss the coming months) and secured a new signing before the closing of the winter transfer window.
By signing Isak Jansson, Rapid have brought in a Swedish junior international, initially on loan until the end of the season. Jansson, who recently turned 22, moved in the summer of 2022 from Kalmar FF to FC Cartagena. For 2008 Swedish champions Kalmar he made almost 70 appearances in the top-flight Allsvenskan, scoring seven times before his move to the Spanish second-tier. With Cartagena he made 45 appearances, scoring three times, and also played five times in the Copa Del Rey, including a recent extra time defeat to Valencia CF.
Managing Director of Sport Markus Katzer had the following to say on the last new signing of this transfer window: "We see great potential in Isak Jansson, who made his professional debut at the age of 17 and has played over 20 junior international games. He can play on both wings, but also as a second striker, and brings a lot of dynamism, speed and a good mentality. Statistical analyses show that in some areas, such as successful dribbling, he is among the absolute best in the former Segunda Division. We are confident that he can be an asset to us in the longer term and have also agreed an option with his current club to sign him permanently beyond the loan period. Like our coach Robert Klauß, who was fully involved in the personnel decision, I am very much looking forward to working with Isak Jansson."
New Rapidler Isak Jansson, who will wear the number 22 jersey, said: "I'm really looking forward to playing for this great club in front of its fantastic fans. I'm sure we'll have some great moments together in the future and I'm very excited to look ahead, especially to the first home game at the Allianz Stadium."
Players from Scandinavian countries have left their mark on SK Rapid in different decades, including the club legends Jonny Bjerregaard (Denmark), Jan Aage Fjørtoft (Norway) and Markus Heikkinen (Finland). Jansson is only the second Swede to play for SK Rapid; his predecessor was Sven Lindman, who scored five goals in 21 competitive matches in the 1968/69 season.
