Rapid Bring in a New Offensive Option!
Shortly before the end of the summer transfer window, SK Rapid can announce a new addition to the squad. 26-year-old centre-forward Ryan Mmaee has been signed on loan from English club Stoke City, and an option to make the deal permanent has also been agreed with the Potters.
Born in Belgium, Ryan Mmaee attended the youth academies of KAA Gent and Standard Liège and has played around two dozen international matches for various youth teams of the ‘Red Devils’. At senior level, he has made twelve international appearances for Morocco, in which he scored four goals.
In club football, the 1.85m striker can already look back on over 200 competitive matches and his stats show a respectable 69 goals in those games. In his native Belgium, he played professionally for Standard Liège (2015 - 2017) and Beveren (2017/18), as well as in Denmark (2018/19 with Aarhus), in Cyprus (2019 - 2021 with AEL Limassol), in Hungary (2021 - 2023 with Ferencvaros) and most recently since the summer of 2023 with Stoke City in the English Championship.
Managing Director of Sport Markus Katzer commented on the signing: “As we all know, the injury bug has struck mercilessly in our attacking ranks recently. Although we are convinced that all of our attackers will soon be available again, we needed to take action in order to achieve our goals as safely as possible. With the loan of Ryan Mmaee, we have gained an experienced and prolific striker who has already seen a lot in European football. As well as being a very good goal scorer, he is also characterised by his excellent ball security. Like our coach Robert Klauß, I am delighted to welcome Ryan to our team with immediate effect.”
The new Rapidler, who is a dual citizen of Belgium and Morocco, will wear the number 14 shirt in the future!
In addition to the signing of Mmaee, a promising Green & White youth prospect has also been promoted to the first-team squad. Nikolaus Wurmbrand has already completed his summer preparations with the first team and has played in all of Rapid II's second division matches so far this season, scoring four goals in just four league games.
