Guido Burgstaller Seriously Injured
Sadly, the club has some bad news to share shortly before SK Rapid’s final home game of the year. Guido Burgstaller was the victim of an assault at the weekend and has suffered serious head injuries. The 35-year-old Carinthian was attacked by an unknown assailant in Vienna’s city centre, and suffered among other injuries, a basal skull fracture after a fall caused by a brutal blow. There were witnesses present.
Guido was immediately examined and taken to hospital in the Austrian capital. Unfortunately he will have to remain under medical supervision for a while, and it’s clear that he will not be returning to football-related activities for several months.
Everyone at SK Rapid wishes their colleague and friend a smooth and speedy recovery, and we trust the relevant authorities to bring the as yet unknown perpetrator to justice swiftly. We would ask you to respect the privacy of Guido and his family at this time. If there is any more news to share in the coming days, SK Rapid will announce this officially after consultation with the team’s medical department and the player himself. SK Rapid will naturally offer our full support to Guido on his road to what will hopefully be a speedy recovery.
