Sporting Director Markus Katzer Signs a Contract Extension
After finalising the formal details, SK Rapid is pleased to confirm the early extension of Markus Katzer's contract as sporting director. The contract, which originally ran until the end of December 2025, has now been extended ahead of schedule by 24 months - until December 31st 2027.
Markus Katzer took up his role in January 2023 and his areas of responsibility include the first team, SK Rapid II and the associated squad planning & scouting, sports management and sporting performance. The 45-year-old Vienna native previously spent four and a half successful years as sporting director at First Vienna FC.
Club President Alexander Wrabetz commented on the continuation of the co-operation with Katzer: "Markus Katzer has carried out his tasks with enormous commitment and a high level of professionalism from day one. With his positive manner, he quickly brought a lot of confidence in and around Rapid and also quickly implemented numerous optimisations in various areas, including scouting, for example. It has long been clear to us as the Executive Committee that we want to continue on the path we have taken with him. Continuity is particularly important in this position and, as Markus has always stated that he wants to stay on board, it was clear to us that we would be able to reach an uncomplicated agreement on the future framework conditions. We agree that we want to continue to rely on our strong young talent and also realise creative transfers regardless of the passport. A number of things have worked very well in recent years and I'm now looking forward to continuing our collaboration."
Markus Katzer himself had the following to say after signing the extension: "I have always felt the trust of the organisation and I am delighted that this has now also been confirmed by the formal extension on the part of the Executive Committee led by Alexander Wrabetz. I am passionate about this task and have said from the outset that we want to go down a path together that is more like a marathon than a sprint. Since taking office, I have approached my work with great joy every day and am convinced that this will continue to be the case in the future. I can rely on a great team with expertise in all areas and am grateful that I can continue to play my part in working for this special club. I am very confident that we will be able to put together a strong team for the coming season over the next few weeks and I am very much looking forward to the challenges ahead of us."
