Hofmann thunderbolt seals points

Coach Peter Schöttel made two changes to his lineup for the trip to Burgenland following his suspension in the previous weeks clash against Salzburg, Pichler returned to the line up in central defence, while the more surprising inclusion of the afternoon was the of young keeper Lukas Königshofer. The afternoon marked his Bundesliga debut for the club and only his second competitive appearance: his first outing came over a year ago in last season’s cup match against Hartberg. ...

Chances go begging as Rapid draw a blank in Kapfenberg

Deni Alar returned for the first time to face his former employers and found himself in the starting 11, playing on the left wing in place of suspended Christopher Drazan as Peter Schöttel opted for 4-2-3-1 formation. Alar’s first action of game was to pick up a yellow card from referee Hameter for handball. Overzealous referee Hameter had brandished his card no less than 4 times in the opening 13 minutes. Newly appointed home trainer Thomas von Heesen, over-seeing his first game from the...

Rapid pick up point on the road

In front of watching national boss Marcel Koller, Rapid took to the field in a 4-4-1-1 formation. The presence of influential skipper Steffen Hofmann in the starting line up gave the Green-Whites a boost before kick off. The diminutive playmaker had missed the game against Graz, but was suitably recovered to join the attack in the number 10 role behind lone striker Guido Burgstaller.Strong opening phase Christopher Drazan registered Rapid's first shot of the afternoon, testing keeper Gebauer...

3:2 - Crucial three points

For the first time since Spetember 21st, influential captain Steffen Hofmann was missing from the Rapid starting line up. Experienced fin Markus Heikinnen was partnered by Prager in his absence. First meaningful attack almost yields reward for the Hütteldorfers. It took aabout 20 minutes for the Hanappi clash to begin to boil. A quality cross from Drazan, who floating in the hole behind the strikers, found it's way to Trimmel whose instinctive effort went just wide of the upright, failing...

Rapid pick up point on the road with 1:1 in Ried

1:2: Disappointing Cup exit

The Rapid starting line up bore a familiar look: in defence Sonnleitner and Pichler formed a center back partnership, flanked by full backs Katzer and Schimpelsberger. Trimmel, Drazan, Hofmann and Heikinnen made up the midfield, while Burgstaller partnered Salihi in attack. Only 6.500 spectators were in attendance a surprisingly low turn out by Rapid standards. The Green Whites flew out of the blocks again in a fashion reminiscent of the Vienna derby a week previous. Schimpelsberger was the...

Burgstaller strike vs. Austria

In a strangely sparsely populated Horr Stadium our side locked horns with familiar foes Austria Vienna with a much-changed line up. Helge Payer was back in the side, protected by a back four of Sonnleitner, Soma, Katzer and Schimpelsberger. The midfield quartet consisted of Drazan, Prager, Pichler and Trimmel, while up front Burgstaller was the lone striker with skipper Steffen Hofmann in the hole behind him. Those awaiting an onslaught from the hosts following their good showing in midweek...
