In front of watching national boss Marcel Koller, Rapid took to the field in a 4-4-1-1 formation. The presence of influential skipper Steffen Hofmann in the starting line up gave the Green-Whites a boost before kick off. The diminutive playmaker had missed the game against Graz, but was suitably recovered to join the attack in the number 10 role behind lone striker Guido Burgstaller.Strong opening phase Christopher Drazan registered Rapid's first shot of the afternoon, testing keeper Gebauer from the left hand side of the area in the 8th minute. Peter Schöttel's side continued to pour forwards in the opening exchanges and the next to try his luck was Christopher Trimmel, unfortunately he failed to capitalise from close range following Burgstaller's square ball. Trimmel makes second chance countSteffen Hofmann was presented with a golden opportunity in the 22nd minute after quality build up play involving Prager and Trimmel. He received the ball in space in the opposition's penalty area but his shot failed to test Gebauer. Just minutes later Trimmel made sure Rapid capped their positive opening with the goal they had merited, his weak shot making it's way past the Ried keeper and into the net. Disappointingly Helge Payer was soon afterwards fishing the ball out of his own net: Nacho's 29th minute shot ensured Rapid held their lead for only four minutes. Hofmann (33.) and Trimmel (45.) failed to convert the final two chances of the half and the teams went into the break even at one goal apiece. Action packed second 45 Rapid almost restored their lead straight from the restart: Prager's 47th minute effort narrowly going the wrong side of the upright. The first movement on the bench came in the 53rd minute as last week’s two-goal hero Atdhe Nuhiu somewhat surprisingly replaced this weeks goal scorer Trimmel. A superb solo run from Prager set up Hofmann who again got his angles wrong with his strike on the hour mark. Hadzic and Nacho then went close for the hosts as the game began to swing from end to end. However as the match entered it's closing the stages it developed into a midfield tussle, with goal scoring opportunities hard to come by. The last chance of the afternoon fell to Rapid as Nuhiu headed the ball down to Burgstaller. Unfortunately for the travelling fans from Vienna, his effort sailed wide of the target. No further chances were created in added time and both teams had to be satisfied with a hard fought point after a thoroughly entertaining match. tipp3-Bundesliga, 14th round:SV Ried - SK Rapid 1:1 (1:1)Keine-Sorgen-Arena, 7.300, Referee KrassnitzerGoals: 0:1 (25.)
