Ercan Kara Joins the Team for Training Camp in Belek

Just a few hours before SK Rapid departed for the training camp in Belek this week, 24-year-old centre forward Ercan Kara was officially announced as one of our own. The deal was completed after an agreement was reached with former club SV Horn, and Kara signed a contract until summer 2022.

The 1.92m tall striker had only headed to Waldviertel-based SV Horn last summer from Karabakh Vienna, and now he’s been brought back to the capital after scoring a mighty 13 goals in 16 HPYBET 2. League matches, as well as assisting 3 more.

Sporting Director Zoran Barisic gave his thoughts on the transfer: "Ercan Kara is the type of player we don’t really have in the squad since Aliou Badji’s departure. He has shown his offensive prowess in various leagues in recent seasons, and he knows how to find the goal. The coaching staff and I are convinced that he will prove effective in the Bundesliga too, and he’ll add strength to the squad. He’s had an interesting career path, and his character fits the club well. We’re glad that he’s able to join us and take part in the training camp from day one.”

Kara’s arrival means that there will be 30 players taking part in the training camp from the start, including youth prospects such as 4th keeper Niklas Hedl and forwards Marko Bozic and Dragoljub Savic, who last featured in our friendly against Floridsdorfer AC.

The team will return to Austria on the 5th February, after playing 4 friendly matches in Belek:

29th January 2020 (13:00):
SK Rapid vs Odense BK (Den)

29th January 2020 (15:30):
SK Rapid vs FK Vojvodina Novi Sad (SRB)

1st February 2020 (13:00):
SK Rapid vs Levski Sofia (BUL)

4th February 2020 (15:30):
SK Rapid vs NK Maribor (SLO)
