297th Vienna derby abandoned

After 30 minutes of the season's final home game against rivals Austria Vienna the match was suspended. Following a further 30 minute delay, referee Thomas Einwaller was left with no choice but to abandon the game.

Official response to the abandoned match

To ensure the best possible preparation, the club was engaged in prolonged talks in the weeks prior to the game with security forces, police officials, fans and supporters clubs. The invasion of the playing space by a clubs own supporters, and the threatening of others inside the stadium must be, and is, met with the most vehement condemnation. The level of shame brought upon the club is of course enormous. SK Rapid will use all the means at our disposal to relentlessly pursue those...

More woes on the road for Rapid

Rapid lined up in Barisic' favoured 4-5-1 formation for the trip to Ried. Jürgen Patocka partnered Soma in the heart of the back four, while it would again be primarily down to Steffen Hofmann and Prokopic to provide support to the lone Hamdi Salihi up front. Whatever plans Zoran Barisic and Rapid had went out of the window in the 6th minute. A quick throw caught Rapid napping and allowed Stefan Lexa to cross from the edge of the area for Ivan Carril who finished from close range....

Late penalty dents euro hopes

Rapid bow out of Cup

While the Austrian FA Cup may lack the glamour of the German equivalent and the tradition of the English version, the Semi Final between SV Ried and our side represented a route into European football next season. Christoph Saurer came into the starting line up, while Salihi again led the line by himself. Despite the small capacity, the stadium was not sold out for the match even though the winners would be hot favourites going into the final against lower league outfit Austria Lustenau.The...
