Clash of the classic clubs!

Kick off: The new Bundesliga calendar year is getting started earlier than ever before: The 13th round of the Tipico Bundesliga kicks off on Friday with a huge match against SK Sturm. The Styrians travel to the Allianz Stadium in second place in the table, kick off is at 7:00 pm. The match will be broadcast live on Sky, and you can also follow the action up close via a live-ticker in the Rapid app. We will also keep you up to date throughout the day via our social media channels.

The starters: The opening match of the new year is one of great importance. Not only do two traditional heavyweights face each other on Friday evening, but Rapid also have the chance to climb to the top of the table, at least until Sunday, with a win. With captain Dejan Ljubicic, a key player is back on board who can provide the necessary balance in the centre of the midfield. Coach Didi Kühbauer's team has come through the preparation phase well and, above all, injury-free. This Friday, the Kühbauer’s squad will try to arrest a minor negative run, as it’s now been three home games without a win.

SK Sturm travel to the Allianz Stadium with their heads held high, as the only team in the league not to have lost an away game this season. Their away strength was proven last weekend in the catch-up fixture against WAC. Ilzer's XI battled their way to a goalless draw in a game in which they were outnumbered, but nonetheless missed out on a place at the top of the table.

Neck and neck: In Autumn the two sides played out a high quality 1-1 draw.

Statistics: An already exciting clash also packs some explosive stats! The Green and White offence alongside Ercan Kara (6 goals) is in second place in the Bundesliga with 26 goals scored in the league, while the visiting defence is by far the best in the league, with Jörg Siebenhandl conceding just five goals in the 12 rounds so far. In addition to the quality of the play, we can also expect a very competitive game, which is underlined by the two-legged value of both clubs. With 1359 duels and a win ratio of 54.3% the Green and Whites are the best team in the league by this metric. The Black and Whites have similar figures though, with 1356 duels and a 52.5% win rate. The legend of the Rapid quarter-hour could once again make a difference in this match, as the Hütteldorfers have scored the most goals this season in the last 15 minutes of games, seven in total.

Head to Head: Rapid's overall record in the championship against Sturm Graz is more than just positive. From 104 home league duels so far, the Hütteldorf side have emerged victorious 70 times. In the last calendar year, there was only one meeting in Hütteldorf, which was won by Didi Kühbauer's team with a commanding and well-deserved 4-0 victory. The decisive factor on that occasion was a brace by Kelvin Arase.
