SK Rapid Vienna are delighted to announce the signing of dutch striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. The 31 year old joins the club on a free transfer after signing a 2 year contract. Jan linked up with us on monday and after coming through his medical promptly signed on the dotted line, taking over the vacant number 10 jersey.Hesselink began his professional career in 1996 with dutch side Twente Enschede, netting 59 times in 142 outings. This form earned him a move to dutch giants PSV Eindhoven.While at PSV, Hesselink picked up two Dutch Eredivisie titles and earned himself a spot on the plane for the dutch national sides campaigns in the 2006 World Cup and 2008 European Championship. He has been capped 19 times by Holland. Whilst speaking about his move Jan explained: "I had several interesting offers from across Europe. But only Rapid gave me and my family an instantly good feeling. The city and the club, with it's traditions and incredible supporters, made my decision easy for me. I'm looking forward to this new, and hopefully successful, chapter in my career". Director of Football Alfred Hörtnagl added: "With Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink we have pulled off a major international transfer coup. He has shown in the past that he is a top international class striker, and we look forward to him proving that at SK Rapid".
