Peter Schöttel shuffled his pack against Neustadt following Thursday's grueling encounter in Kharkiv: Pichler came into the centre of defence, Schrammel was in at full back, Boyd up front and Prager was deployed as an offensive midfielder. Despite only having won once this season, Wiener Neustadt didn't turn up with the express intention of getting rolled over and boosting Rapid's goal difference in fact, just the opposite appeared to be happening as the game got underway at the peculiar time of 18:30. Space was at a premium for the Green & Whites who were struggling to find fluency and create openings. The guests from lower Austria were finding proceedings rather more agreeable and actually took the lead with their first foray forwards: Mimm played in Rakowitz whose shot deceived Rapid keeper Königshofer who could only parry the ball out to Piermayer. The ball was again fed into Rakowitz who beat Königshofer at the second time of asking. 0:1 to Neustadt in the 8th minute in a stunned Gerhard Hanappi Stadium. Not an ideal start, and unfortunately things didn't show any real signs of improvement throughout the first half. Long range efforts from Ildiz and Trimmel was about as good as it got for Rapid, who were really struggling to find the killer pass and any penetration in the final third. Wiener Neustadt didn't really look to get forwards and were content to sit deep and look for the occasional counter opportunity. There was barely a chink of daylight for the home fans to get excited about and getting back into the game was certainly looking a tough prospect. Second half equaliser Captain Steffen Hofmann failed to emerge for the second half: the Rapid skipper had taken a blow to the eye during Saturday's training session and began to feel giddy at half time. It was a precautionary measure, decided on by the medical staff, Deni Alar sent on as a replacement. The pattern of the game changed little in the second half: Rapid were finding it tough to find a route to goal in an increasingly frustrating affair. The was a sight of goal for Harry Pichler in the 61st minute as he gathered in a Burgstaller cross, spun on the ball and fired a shot that narrowly cleared the Neustadt crossbar. The minutes continued to tick away and the likelihood of an equalizer seemed to diminish. However four minutes from the end Rapid conjured the unlikely moment from nothing: Trimmel crossed into the box for the beautifully positioned Boyd to slam home from close range and rescue at least a point for Peter Schöttel's side. Boyd's effort was the 6,700th Rapid goal in competitive football. Despite snatching the late moment, a second goal never really seemed in the offing and we were forced to settle for a disappointing point. tipp3-Bundesliga, 11th round:SK Rapid - Wr.
