In spring 2012 then trainer Peter Schöttel brought Wydra into the first team fold, handing him his debut as a late sub during a 3:0 victory over Kapfenberger SV on his 18th birthday. Wydra went on to make a total of 67 competitive appearances for the first team, scoring three goals.Sporting Director Andreas Müller: "We have made it clear for long time that due to our large squad, players who are not 100% satisfied with their current situation at Rapid could, for the right offer, be available for transfer. We wish Dominik Wydra, a home grown player again highlighting the excellent work of the academy, all the best with his new club Paderborn. He has unquestionable qualities, but together we arrived at the decision that a new step in his career makes sense. In addition his contract was due to expire at the end of the coming season. I'm convinced that he'll be able to prove himself and be a success at his new club."Dominik Wydra: "I am and will always remain Rapid through and through I was at Rapid for almost my entire footballing life. Nonetheless it is time for me now to look for a new challenge. The negotiations we fair from all sides and I'd like to thank everyone involved and wish Rapid all the best for the new season."
