Rapid face Donaufeld “Derby” in the Cup
On Sunday afternoon the first round draw for the UNIQA ÖFB Cup was made, as usual, on a special ORF programme. SK Rapid now know that the first opponents of next season’s knock-out competition will be the Vienna side SR Donaufeld. The Regional League side from Floridsdorf will be the designated home team, and the match will take place between the 21st and 23rd of July.
Head Coach Zoran Barišić: “In SR Donaufeld we’ll face an opponent that we know very well, and a team who we’ve played many friendly games against in the past. Of course, it’s quite interesting that the chairman of our first opponents, Stefan Singer, is also a member of our presidium, so there will definitely be a bit of a conflict of allegiances there. Naturally we’re looking forward to the game; many former Donaufeld players such as Eldis Bajrami, Osarenren Okungbowa or Marvin Egho later became my players at Rapid, and given how close they are geographically, we can expect large numbers of Rapid supporters on-site in Floridsdorf. The ÖFB-Cup is for us, a competition in which we want to go as far as possible. As favourites, we want to get through, and we hope that our hosts can deliver a great day of football, from which they can also profit financially.”
The exact kick off date and time is yet to be determined!
