Hungarian International Joins Rapid on a Free Transfer
In the form of Bendegúz Bolla, Rapid have brought a 16-time Hungarian international and a UEFA EURO 2024 participant to the first team in Hütteldorf.
The next new addition to the team is official. The 24-year-old right back comes in as a young player who has already amassed plenty of international experience on the flank. The right-footer was last under contract at Wolverhampton Wanderers in England, albeit having spent the past three seasons out on loan at Grasshoppers (2021-2023) and Servette (2023/24) in the Swiss Super League, where he collected 23 scorer points in 101 league and cup appearances.
In the season just gone he participated in six group stage games in the UEFA Europa League (including against AS Roma), as well as a further four in the knock-out stages of the UEFA Conference League, and internationally he’s picked up multiple junior caps for Hungary, and now finds himself involved in the EUROs for the senior side.
Rapid have now secured the services of the offensively-minded full back (born Nov 22nd 1999), who also made more than 50 appearances in the top flight in his native Hungary with Zalaegerszeg and Fehervar (formerly Videoton / FC Vidi), and went on to make his senior national team debut in June 2021, picking up a total of 16 caps since then. He’s signed a deal until 2026/27 with the Green & Whites!
Sporting Director Markus Katzer has this to say on Rapid’s new arrival: “In Bendegúz Bolla we’ve been able to add a player with international experience to our ranks. Most recently, he’s been an important part of a team playing in Europe, and he played 44 competitive games at Servette. With his attacking playing style and the quality of his crosses, he will give us more options in possession from next season. I’m very happy that we were able to convince Bolla to take the next step in his career at SK Rapid, because of course he was wanted by a number of other clubs.”
The exact time at which Bendegúz Bolla will join up with his new teammates depends upon how Hungary fare at this summer’s EUROs, but what we do know is that he will continue his tradition of wearing the number 77, when he runs out in Green & White for Rapid!
